Abbie is a 17-year-old swimmer from Buxton who trains with Loughborough University and is on the British Swimming World Class Podium Potential Programme for 2016-17. She claimed a bronze medal at the senior British Championships, a bronze in the European Junior Championships and a gold in the British Summer National Championships, all in the 400m individual medley.

Abbie says: "Although from Buxton, I currently live in Loughborough, study at Loughborough College and swim for Loughborough University at the British Swimming National Centre.

"I have recently been named on the World Class Podium Potential Programme for 2016-17 with British Swimming for the fourth year.

"In April, I got my first senior Bronze medal at the British Championships in the 400m Individual Medley and I also got selected for the European Championships at both Junior and Senior level. I won a Bronze medal at the European Junior Championships in Hungary.

"In July, I won four medals at the British Summer Championships - one gold, (400m IM), one silver (200m IM) and two Bronze (400m freestyle and 800m freestyle).

"I am now in my second year at Loughborough and am really enjoying training at the National Centre and really enjoy living there.

"I have recently returned from a three-week altitude training camp in Flagstaff, Arizona (October 2016) and in December have gained my second selection to compete at senior level for Great Britain at the World Short course Championships in Canada.

"My goal for this year is to medal at the British Championships in April 2017. Going forward I aim to qualify for the Commonwealth Games in Australia in 2018. My ultimate goal in my swimming career is to win a medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020."
