Lewis is a 15-year-old Rugby League player from right here in Matlock who has been selected to be part of the Rugby Football League England Positional Specifics programme. He is part of the Castleford Tigers under-16s scholarship squad and aims to secure a professional contract in the near future.
Lewis says: "I train at Castleford Tigers three times per week for a total of seven hours. This breaks down into three categories: three hours gym, three and a half hours field and half an hour education.
"Gym work includes weight training and one on one wrestling /heavy contact work. Field work involves gameplay reconstructions, set play practice, ball skills and fitness and conditioning testing. The education timetable includes nutrition, education pathways, recovery and hydration, mental skills, goal setting, social media and dealing with pressure.
"My goals for the next 12 months are to continue to be selected for the scholarship under-16s team that play games against other Super League teams.
"Hopefully this will give me a platform to be considered for the England under-16s squad who tour France next year. Nearer the end of the season, I aim to secure a professional contract in the Castleford Tigers under-19s academy. This will mean moving to the area and attending Pontefract New College, who have a partnership with Castleford Tigers.
"My long term sporting ambition is to have a career as a professional rugby league player for Castleford Tigers and to play for them in the Super League."
