Ross Orme

18-year-old sprint canoeist Ross, from Woodville, is currently on the English National Talent Squad (U18) and will move to the English Performance Squad (U23) next year. Ross represented GB at the European Championships, having been selected for this at the Sprint National Championships where he had won two silver medals, in the K4 1000m and K4 500m.

Ross says: "I'm now a full-time athlete having decided to defer university to concentrate on my kayaking career, where I continue to compete at kayak sprint in K1, (solo) and K2/K4 (crew boats). I am currently training three times a day six days a week travelling to the National Water Sports Centre at Holmepierpont Nottingham most days with my GB Canoeing team mates, or to our canoe club at Atherstone. Training comprises of on water paddling consisting of long paddles and various shorter efforts over 1000m, 500m and 200m, and land-based sessions in the gym, plus yoga, running, cycling and core.

"My goals for the 2017 season are to continue to compete for Great Britain, with opportunities at the Junior European and World Championships. I am also working with friend and training partner Tom Lusty in order to establish a winning K2 over 1000m. My ultimate ambition is to represent Great Britain at the Olympics."
