Struan Caughey

Ecclesbourne School pupil Struan competes in the Olympic discipline of recurve target archery. The 17-year-old from Duffield won a bronze medal for Scotland at the UK National Indoor Championships in the U18 section.

Struan says: "This year I have represented Scotland at the Junior National Outdoor Championships at Lilleshall in July. I did not compete in the GB selection shoot in June as it was during exam time and I had exams when the competitions were scheduled.

"Presently, I am preparing for two tournaments from which I will submit scores for selection to represent Scotland at the junior National Indoor Championships at Stoneleigh in December. Both of these are in Scotland so the funding is key in assisting with my ability to participate.

"This year, I have passed my level 1 in archery coaching and have selected archery as the volunteering section of my Gold Duke of Edinburgh which I am in the process of completing. I will support my club in coaching at beginners courses, coaching at the Derbyshire Hotshots and senior winter coaching programme and if possible to also assist with the EMAS juniors coaching this winter.

"I am attending the Ecclesbourne School gym on a weekly basis to complete S&C training and I supplement this with S&C at home.

"My sporting goals are to maintain my technique, fitness, share good practice in coaching and to represent my country and university of choice."
